the path

A few leaves fall
A few leaves turn yellow and fall from the heat
A few branches break leaf bare,
moss encumbered resting wayside,
Some of the tall meadow grass limps,
The sea holy have browned
Now brittle and bending,
The wind has helped the cottony welted thistle heads spread their seed
What was a wall of green
Is now a latticed window into
the further depths of the forest,
A belted kingfisher flits playfully overhead
Near Turtle Pond
Higher still a hawk surveys for lunch
Everyday the journey is the same but the path has changed.
