walk
in the midst of it all
the chaos and uncertainty
with little optimism
much hope,
sanity in nature
Round Lake is one of several connected lakes in Lacamas Park, there are various trails throughout 6 miles with an elevation of 190 feet. The paths are not paved and rocky in certain areas. One must watch their step in this cool forest canopy. The lake today is still, a single kayak sits in the water on this midweek morning.
We start on the trail by crossing the working dam that has functioned since the time of the mills in this area. The entire walk is under the forest canopy and cool even on this warm spring day. We take a side trail to Pothole Falls. We can hear the water roaring with spring rains. The falls are down a steep hillside, the pock marked rocks still visible through openings in the understorey. The rocks have big round “pot” holes from flooding eroding the softer rock.

Then it is a gradual ascent to a hilltop open glade of profusely blooming Camas flowers. We have come at the height of their spring bloom.

On the path back down I find a few elusive Oregon Fawnlily, before we are back down to the other side of the lake.

There is a country market/restaurant near the parking area. I will plan time for a stop for coffee after the next walk. For today, I leave with the pleasure of seeing the Camas in bloom.
