On my visits to Ukraine, I gravitated toward the elderly women in villages, especially those who lived alone. Their lives were not easy – village life is always hard – and they were often lonely, so they were thankful to have a listening ear. They welcomed me into their homes and shared stories from their lives. I valued their hospitality and will carry the sweet memories of my time with these women in my heart.
